I guess it could be using the alpha channel, but `setIsMask` supposed to 
"Indicate that this icon is a mask image, and hence can potentially be modified 
based on where it's displayed". 
I'm going to leave it as is for the time being and see if one even encounters 
passive KDE systray icons in the wild on OS X. I'm not going to waste time on 
designing a fancy icon effect if that will only be used once every few blue 
moons ;)
