It starts as soon as the input is a valid MD5, SHA1 or SHA256 checksum (which means 32, 40 or 64 hexadecimal digits). If it's not valid, the box becomes red and a tooltip explains what's wrong. An expander should be doable (using KCollapsibleGroupBox), but if we're going to add a label "Checksums do not match", why not just adding another label below? (with the expanded error message).
