Seeing that HAL has been added to ports, I installed it and rebuilt kdebase.
At this time, kdebase has a silent dependency on HAL if it is present on the
system. However, with HAL installed, kded is broken for me. When trying to
launch kded (through logging in to KDE or manually on the command line) I get
the following error:

/libexec/ld-elf.so.1: /usr/local/lib/kde3/kded_mediamanager.so: Undefined
symbol "_ZN8DiscTypeC1ENS_4TypeE"

This causes kded to fail, and therefore many of KDE's features do not work,
such as kwallet. So far I cannot track down where this symbol might be coming
from, but this is rather out of my league.
