Hi, The general feeling at KDE/FreeBSD team is that, while the patch does indeed work, it's the wrong way of dealing with the issue.
devel/flex should be fixed so that it installs its header(s) under a separate path, so it doesn't conflict. Ports which DO require this version of flex should be updated to look in this new location.
