I can confirm, on a Intel DualCore 1.66Ghz, Krita takes so long to start that klauncher(or kdeinit or whatever does this) reports that it was unable to start the application at all. In general picture related stuff is really, really slow and borked somehow in KDE-Applications on FreeBSD. Scaling an image with Kolourpaint or importing something with qtpfsgui, makes the entire desktop freeze until the process is finished. I even had this on a PhenomII x4 System, although of course the loading times were shorter. Dont know if this is a general kde/qt-thing or related to FreeBSD.
