But...MySQL-server (embedded actually) is only a *default* runtime
dependency. I think there's a PR to detach the MySQLD dependency from
both Nepomuk and Akonadi.

I can see that it would generate a lot of maintainer mail if presented
as an OPTIONS dialog. The desire to strip dependencies overpowers
researching the implications, but perhaps a less obvious knob could be
implemented. Administrators who have configured their users to use a
central database should be able to rid themselves of a MySQL daemon on
the deployed desktops.
