I need to (forcefully) remove phonon-gstreamer for any sound to work in KDE. But it sounds like the OP might have a different issue, since the "oss" device is listed. Hmm, I don't have any devices listed under "Audio Recording" either in System settings->Multimedia->Audio and Video Settings.
