I've added enough debugging to prove it is passing through the password and the
hash correctly, the salt is being created and saved in
~/.local/share/kwalletd/kdewallet.salt, etc. Everything seems fine as far as
that goes. Perhaps it is a race condition?

There's a new patch upstream related to a DBUS race condition which I manually
backported to try to fix this but it still didn't work:

however, that would only solve one problem. I still haven't figured out why the
socket isn't being created in the normal XDG_RUNTIME_DIR, but it can be created
if you override the socketPath
