Hello, people.
I'm trying to put some order in my notes regarding the Icelandic team,
and would like your help to sort things out. I'll try to summarize, here,
everything I know about it. Sorry for the possibly long message, but
you'll agree that the simplest is to share information, and go on from there.
The current state is simple to describe. From the registry of the
Translation Project, I have:

wrote on 1997-01 that he translated `textutils' 1.20 to Icelandic, as
well as many other textual domains. I sent him information about steps
to follow and corrections needed in his `textutils' PO file, but all mail
got rejected. I tried many times to reach him. I got one reply on 1997-03,
and the contact seemed to have been lost again, afterwards.
Thorarinn (Tony) R. Einarsson, for whom I found:

wrote on 1998-10, saying he coordinates the KDE translating efforts,
together with 6 members, at <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>, and asked information
about creating an Icelanding team, in view of Gnome and other packages.
I created the team information from his message, but never received any
news since.
Hrafnkell Eiriksson <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> also wrote, on 1999-05, to offer
a translation for the messages Texinfo distribution, if I got things
correctly, he also talked about a translation for `fileutils'. He also
asked about setting up an Icelandic team for the "FSF Translation Project".
He announced himself as part of the KDE Icelandic team, and was unaware
of previous Thorarinn contacts. We apparently lost contact since then.
I would like to stress a bit that it is not fully exact to say "FSF
Translation Project". I prefer "Free Translation Project", as the project
aims various free software, GNU and non-GNU, even if this is still true
that most of the textual domains we handle are for GNU.

There are packages for which disclaimers are needed (most GNU packages are
like that), and some for which they are not needed (this is the trend for
non-GNU packages). Every translator of a package needing a disclaimer has
to fill and send the form before the translation is uploaded. The team
decides for itself if it makes the disclaimer a rule for membership, or not.
For proofreading and suggested changes, I guess this is a fuzzy area.
I would tend to say (but I cannot really speak in the name of the FSF)
that disclaimers are not needed, unless the contributions are substantial.
If the team fears that the amount of contributions is such that the
contributor could later sue either the team or the FSF, or request that
his/her contributions be removed and destroyed, and have a legal case,
then I guess disclaimers are required. I guess that the team should judge
those things and just try to behave responsibly, within reason, not being
overly relax nor overly paranoid. I surely cannot judge as seen from here,
nor can the FSF, in my opinion, so in practice, we have to rely on the teams.
