As you surely know, Beyond Linux From Scratch has included since some weeks 
KDE-4 in the book. They did it with version kde-4.6.0. I followed this 
instructions and got a very stable system in my PC's. I think, not only the 
building instructions are very clear but also the sources for the packages. In 
my opinion, one major problem compiling the system by my own was finding wich 
source is the correct one for what version, e.g. git, kde source repository,kde 
trunk, etc. 
I would recommend not to move avay from 4.6.0 until the LFS people do so, 
probably avoiding a lot of problems. They knew why they did not include KDE-4 
for more than two years in BLFS !
