It appears that the 1.6.x releases of CUPS print worse on my line
printer. I needed to print a very important document and I was using a
very normal font: Times New Roman PS (Type1) to print my name:
James Richard Tyrer
The print preview on Open Office (3.4.1) was absolutely correct. But,
when it printed, it didn't print the spaces so it looked like this:
JamesRichardTyrer
I switched to the TrueType font and the lower case 'e's looked like 'c's.
This is not good.
The Ghostscript RIP converter (commonly called the "driver") works fine.
The problem is the CUPS driver, which never worked as well but used to
work better. Since KDE and Qt has changed the way that they print, the
only way that I have been able to use the Ghostscript driver is to print
manually. I must first create a Post Script file by printing to a file.
Then I must use the Ghostscript RIP "driver" to either create a file
which can be dumped onto the printer or use the Ghostscript RIP driver
to directly dump to the printer.
Is there any way that I can use CUPS with the Ghostscript RIP drivers
instead of the unsatisfactory CUPS RIP driver?
