Some more information I found: The problem happens when maxSimultaneousProcesses is exceeds (default value 100). The problem is easy to reproduce by setting it to 2. (repository.cpp:27)
When a git-fast-import process is closed (because maxSimultaneousProcesses is reached) and later started again, new marks start at some hight number, for example like this: :1 94add95e5ce7ca8f1b775d279900baaf4b66079e :2 760966de09878a736ffd1113f78f2be7b3db3e5f :1048524 be02a54c6e26bd1536f69773351cddee9e161b30 :1048525 96ee6154f3c194cddd1fb7be744286d98b284bf6 after :2 it was closed. that ":1048524" is somehow related to file marks.
