+ <p>The KDE on Windows team is overly pleased to announce the release of
Windows packages for the KDE Software Compilation 4.5.4. This release is doubly
important because it marks the return to the headlines of the KDE Windows
Initiative after a lot of hard background work and because it brings the KDE SC
4.5 series to the Windows users.</p>
+ <p>Although still not considered stable and suitable for production work,
this release brings to the table a lot of new improvements worth trying:
+    <ul>
+      <li> all the <a href="http://www.kde.org/announcements/4.5/";>goodness
brought by KDE SC 4.5</a>;
+      <li> all the <a
href="http://www.kde.org/announcements/announce-4.5.4.php";>bugfixes brought by
the 4.5.4 minor release</a> and six months of work from the KDE Windows team;
+      <li> the <a
href="http://apachelog.wordpress.com/2010/11/30/phonon-vlc-0-3-rock-solid/";>lastest
 version of Phonon-VLC backend</a> is available as the default backend;
+ <li> support for two new compilers: mingw-w32, a more updated
distribution of Gcc for Windows provided by the <a
href="http://mingw-w64.sourceforge.net";>mingw-w64 project</a>, and vc100, the
Microsoft compiler provided in <a
href="http://www.microsoft.com/express/Windows/";>Visual Studio 2010 Express
Edition</a>. These, in the future, will respectively replace mingw4 and vc90
(both of which are however supported in this release).
+    </ul>
+   <p>
+ <p>Aside from the software improvements mentioned above, the Windows team
has worked under the hood to lower the barrier of <a
href="http://mail.kde.org/pipermail/kde-windows/2010-November/005254.html";>contribution
 to development</a> and <a
href="http://lists.kde.org/?l=kde-windows&m=128812965819938&w=2";>community
participation</a>. This release itself is the result of a <a
href="http://mail.kde.org/pipermail/kde-windows/2010-December/005385.html";>common
 release effort</a> to fix the remaining compiling issues. The KDE on Windows
team is quite proud of this common release effort and hopes to repeat it in the
near future when KDE 4.6 is released. We hope you'll "join the (KDE on Windows)
game" too!</p>
+ <p>Users can test this release by using the <a
href="http://windows.kde.org/download.php";>KDEWin Installer</a> to try out all
the software available. Included in this release are kdebase (both the
applications and the workspace), kdeedu, kdegames, kdegraphics, kdemultimedia,
kdenetwork, kdesdk, kdetoys, kdeutils, and several stuff from extragear like
amarok, digikam and kipi-plugins, kmymoney, konversation, kmid, kile and
quassel. Be aware that these could kill your kitten(s), but chances are that
you might find yourself quite comfortable in using some of these
applications.</p>
