As you may have heard, KDE recently topped the Linux Journal's Readers' Choice

That got me thinking. Why do people prefer KDE? What advantages do you think
it has over other desktop environments?

My thanks in advance for any replies.
In addition to much superior *configurability* of KDE compared to other
DEs, I personally prefer it because it's written in C++ and is based on
Qt which makes it -- from a software engineering point of view --
vastly superior to DEs written in C using weird hacks to incorporate the
idea of object oriented programming.
