Dear list, this post might be related to the recent thread "[kde] What is baloo_file_extractor and why is it humping my hard drive?" but I do not want to high check.
Whenever baloo is at work on my system, I see baloo_file and baloo_file_extractor in disk sleep state. This always leads to KDE GUI freeze. This was obvious worst when baloo was initially shuffling through all my files, but even now when baloo only needs to update newly changes files (I guess), the GUI hangs and the processes hit disk sleep. My disk is a traditional spinning rust one, no ssd, but the machine is fairly well powered. I have migrated my .kde4 from 4.12 to 4.13, and I have uninstalled nepomuk. As far as I am informed, baloo should convert the nepomuk stuff and then should work happily from there. Is there something I am missing? Is this a known issue? I want to add, that I really appreciate all the work going into semantic desktop / indexed search in KDE. I know, I could disable baloo either in the config or by adding my home to the ignore list (and this solves my issues, I have tried), but I really love the functionality, such that I prefer to suffer GUI freezes from time to time.
