Hmm, no answer from any officials, interesting. I wrote this letter today: Hi KDE-Board, I just wanted to let you know, that KDE, my favorite desktop since 26 years, is about to pass away from my workstation/laptops due to the move away from X. With the Wayland based desktop, it is missing an essential feature for me: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=377162. With that, it feels stupid to keep up with my quarterly donation to KDE e.V. What a pity. Be assured, that without this feature, a lot of people will turn away from KDE. While looking like a minor feature difference to many, for those that use it in their daily routines, it will be missed badly. Either, we change our habits completely, or find an alternative desktop (window manager), that will still provide it. Best, Pete P.S.: Apart from supporting openSUSE, maintaining more than one hundred packages on OBS, including Blender, I used to maintain {SuSE,openSUSE} based, multi headed diskless workstation setups for some companies, using KDE 1,2,3, and 4, starting in 1999. So, I do provide my share of 2¢s to the Open-Source community. -- Life without chameleons is possible, but pointless.
