Hi,

I just saw
http://kdenlive.org/user-manual/downloading-and-installing-kdenlive/pre-compiled-packages/debian-packages
and it is very outdated :(
I will try to summarize it:

1) "Kdenlive 0.7.7.1 Debian packages are now available in Debian sid
(unstable). Melt (MLT) is presently only available from Debian sid
(unstable). Do not use Debian testing repositories, which offer older
versions of Kdenlive."
-
That is wrong. 0.7.8-1 is in stable, testing has 0.8.2.1 and sid the
current development, but this is changing quickly so it might be better
to refer to http://packages.qa.debian.org/k/kdenlive.html
You also get an overview here:
http://qa.debian.org/developer.php?login=pmatth...@debian.org#kdenlive
Also it is wrong to refer to unstable instead of testing (if you want
bleeding edge), since new releases migrate to testing after 10 days if
no critical bugs appear and users needing a manual for installing
kdenlive shouldn't use unstable (also not testing, but okay..)
-
The same applies for mlt where you get an overview here:
http://qa.debian.org/developer.php?login=pmatth...@debian.org#mlt
http://packages.qa.debian.org/m/mlt.html

2) Upgrading to unstable should be marked as optional for experienced
users, so that users do not fuck up their whole system just to install
kdenlive (which is available in stable!)

3) Installing of the "Debian multimedia packages" is a bad idea (if you
are not using stable aka Squeeze). They mostly produce big problems
(black video in and out etc) and with the next release (Wheezy / current
testing) nearly all important de- and encoders are available about the
stock ffmpeg/libav from Debian.
