KDE-DIGEST: I was just talking to Danny of the KDE digest, and he's interested in putting out a story on Kdenlive, and it seems like the launch of v0.7 would be the perfect time. The only catch is that it needs to be written. He suggested focusing on what's new since the last version and what's interesting about how it was written.
JB, I suspect that you're probably busy enough as it is without thinking about something like this, so I'd be happy to write up some kind of press release for the digest if you wished. EASY BINARIES WITH 0INSTALL: On that note, when 0.7 is released it would be great to have average users be able to try it. The builder Wizard is a huge help here (*thankyou Mads!*), but is still a bit intimidating compared to installing a deb / rpm. Packaging .debs and .rpm's though seems to be a steep, slow learning curve. I was looking around though and came across 0install. It looks like it could be useful as: - It seems extraordinarily simple to use to create packages from a standard binary (just answer a few basic questions in a gui). - It let's us get Kdenlive out instantly *now* rather than users having to wait months (or more) for their distros update their repos. - It's very easy for users to install. *buntu users can just install the package 0install-injector and then install Kdenlive just by typing something like "0install http://kdenlive.org/kdenlive_latest.xml". - It can even provide incremental updates (ie just files changed) unlike deb / RPM's. - It works across platforms. 1 0install binary works on Ubuntu, Fedora, Suse, Mandriva etc. Wouldn't it be amazing to have a cross-distro binary available on launch day? That said, I'm no coder and may have missed something obvious. See http://0install.net/ for the overview to see for yourself. LOGO PROPOSAL: I'd love to get a logo & icon finished for the 0.7 release. If anyone would care to offer constructive feedback (either way) on the latest revision at http://www.kdenlive.org/bbforum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=593&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&start=10#p2244 I'd appreciate it, as time is short. JB I'm completely happy to go in a different direction if you prefer, just let me know, otherwise I'll just keep tweaking to improve what's there. I understand you're very busy. Any feedback (even 3 words) is good feedback, and I promise not to be offended! :) Cheers Cinephiliac
