Hi, I think the same reasoning as for darktable, which also has a unique appearance, applies here: UI must not distract the user in his work. Kdenlive focuses on images and other graphical elements. A distracting UI has crude colors and fancy fonts and other style elements. Have a look at darktable, which has a very low distracting UI (dark gray background, white color etc).
