Sending mails with Google Mail works fine for me.
This error is usually a setup problem (of the distro).
Have you got another program running which also uses SASL? Are you sure SASL
support is correctly compiled into kio_smtp (that should be shown during the
cmake phase when building kdepimlibs)?
Are you sure that the SASL libraries are correctly installed?
