Ok, have tracked down the cause - The Dictionary for my "Identity" was set to
Bulgarian, setting it to Australian solved the problem. No idea how it got to
Bulgarian but I did recreate my .KDE/.KDE4 from scratch so that might have done
it.
Should I leave this open? a wrong/non-existent spell dictionary shouldn't
crash Kmail.
