Agreed. Here's how I found out about it:
In a discussion of email clients, someone on the openSuSE list pointed out that
composing HTML messages would be available in KMail 4.2. I thought I'd seen it
available in 4.1.3, but wasn't sure, so I started to compose a message, and
confirmed that I could indeed opt for HTML.
(4.1.3 is the first KMail version I've used, so I had no idea what feature has
appeared in what version.)
Not wanting to actually *send* an HTML message to anyone, I closed the composer
window without entering any text.
A few minutes later, I replied to the list message, indicating that it works in
4.1.3 as well. Imagine my surprise when I got a rejection message from the list
manager, due to HTML content in my reply. I hadn't noticed that my HTML option
was still in effect. It seems to be a "sticky" option, even though I'd thought
I'd set it for an individual message.
It should be possible for KMail to default to HTML when replying to an HTML
message, and default to plain text when replying to a plain text message. That
should pick the right option about 99.9% of the time, and probably prevent a
lot of rejected list messages.
