Confirmed with KDE 4.1.3 on Kubuntu Intrepid with a local folder.
The question mark in the crypto icon row does not change to the appropriate
value when a message is opened in a separate window. Selecting and deselecting
the message in the list does not help.
Crypto icons only work as expected once the preview pane is added to the layout
again.
