I'm experiencing the same problem as well. I tried nvidia (legacy 96.43.09
beta) and open source nv as well. The problems remains the same. If i create a
new email and start typing fast, X and kmail takes up the whole cpu (Athlon XP
1800+). The same happens if i don't type anything, but i choose to reply to a
message. If i press the arrow keys to move the cursor to other points within
the quoted message, kmail and X have high cpu usage, making the program slow.
