KMail relies on ``UIDNEXT'' to do incremental syncing. But some mail servers don't provide this. In such a case, KMail fails to sync incrementally and takes a long time fetching everything. The standard <https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc3501> says: 'The STATUS command MUST NOT be used as a "check for new messages in the selected mailbox" operation' KMail needs other mechanisms of incremental syncing.
