This happens the last few weeks in Kontact with kmail:
Kontact becomes almost unresponsive on fetching mail, mostly (but not only)
after Kontact is started. I have an IMAP account to a server in our LAN. Right
on startup, if the IMAP account is accessed by kmail automatically, the whole
Kontact hangs for several minutes. Kontact and all its plugins are unusable
during this time and almost not respond on any input. This problem occurs
repeatedly each time interval fetching starts.
