It just takes some time and is just a lot fiddling here and there and back and forth. It is just not obvious that the two views are treated separately. But alas the point is, that I have to do it *every time* again I start kaddressbook, the information about the column width is not stored for the second view. I have the correct width in two pane mode after a restart but the loss of information in three pane mode is even bigger after I have now touched the layout once. Maybe it helps when I show some screenshots.
