Had this problem with the *IMAP* account and indeed the Trash folder setting was missing. $ kmail --version Qt: 4.7.4 KDE Development Platform: 4.7.3 (4.7.3) KMail: 4.7.3 Set "Trash folder" under your IMAP account settings, the "Advanced" tab.
