We're just quite short on manpower. The behaviour you observed was probably connected to disabled auto-expunge/compact in the settings of the IMAP resource. If the deleted mails reappeared greyed out, this is still the current behaviour, partly but not completely on purpose, and then it would be nice if you marked this one a duplicate of Bug #246257.
