Hello Kea users,

We are on track to end maintenance of the 1.5 branch of Kea at the end of the
third quarter of 2020, which is at the end of September. We have a long-lived
knowledgebase article that describes our software support policy and
versioning, available at https://kb.isc.org/docs/aa-00896
<https://kb.isc.org/docs/aa-00896>. If you consult this you will see that, at
the same time as we EOL Kea 1.5, we will also cease regular maintenance on Kea
1.6, and will only issue releases if there are critical fixes (such as security
vulnerabilities).

Kea 1.8, our next stable branch, should be released before the end of
September. If you are still running Kea 1.5 in production, you should upgrade
to 1.6 now or plan to upgrade to 1.8 when it is available. Kea 1.6.3 would be
a more conservative choice than Kea 1.8.0. Kea 1.8.0 will have a number of
feature changes, but notably includes the transition to multithreading. Kea
1.6.3 has proven to be very stable and is widely deployed, but is lacking in
some features in 1.8. See the Kea Significant Features matrix
(https://kb.isc.org/docs/aa-01615 <https://kb.isc.org/docs/aa-01615>) in our
Knowledgebase for the most significant feature changes.
