In addition to Carsten's note, I would point out this line which is sort of
attached to the previous line (perhaps due to copy/paste):

You say no one performed this command.  If this is Ubuntu, I would check
for "unattended upgrades" package:
https://documentation.ubuntu.com/server/how-to/software/automatic-updates/
as this service WILL unexpectedly restart services.  Generally speaking,
unattended upgrades are a very bad idea because things may break during an
update and a human needs to be in attendance so that they might be fixed in
a timely fashion (actually, upgrades should first be tested in a lab
environment if you want to be really safe).
