Agreed.
But we started our project on the 1.0 branch, and really couldn't
migrate to the early stages of the current head... this (for the moment
at least) leaves us stuck on the 1.0 branch.
We have a few more weeks with this project. At that point, hopefully,
we can move to the current head... and when (or if) there is a need for
follow-on work on this project, I think that we would probably bite the
bullet and migrate our code base for the project over to the 2.0 branch.
