*BEML,* second largest manufacturer of earth moving equipment in
Asia, reported a marginal decline in standalone net profit for the quarter
ended December 2008. During the quarter, the profit of the company declined
0.84% to Rs 587.40 million from Rs 592.40 million in the same quarter last
year.

Net sales for the quarter rose marginally 1.72% to Rs 6,328.50 million,
while total income for the quarter rose 6.18% to Rs 6,803.30 million, when
compared with the prior year period.

The company posted earnings of Rs 14.10 a share during the quarter,
registering 0.91% decline over prior year period.
