Riding on an expanded subscriber base, including customers from rural
areas, Bharti Airtel reported 21 per cent growth in net profit at Rs
2,239.30 crore for the fourth quarter ended March 2009, against Rs
1,852.90 crore in the year-ago period.

The company's total revenue, as per US accounting rules, rose by 25.65
per cent to Rs 9,824.50 crore in the March quarter, from Rs 7,819.10
crore in the same period in FY'08.

"Our focus on rural penetration and customer affordability has been
instrumental in delivering this strong growth. The India growth story
continues and we expect revival of the economy in the second half of
this fiscal year," Bharti Airtel Chairman and Managing Director Sunil
Bharti Mittal said.

Bharti Airtel, in which Bharti Telecom has a 45.30 per cent stake and
Singapore government-owned Pastel Ltd holds 15.58 per cent, posted an
EBITDA (earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation)
of Rs 4,001 crore in the fourth quarter, an increase of 23 per cent
year on year.
