TOKYO: Japan's Nikkei stock average rose 1.5 per cent on Monday after
US stocks powered to new highs for the year on growing reassurance
about the
prospects for a global economic recovery, while Nippon Oil climbed
after oil rose over $1.

Convenience store operator Lawson Inc and drugstore chain
Matsumotokiyoshi Holdings Co Inc were untraded and overwhelmed with
buy orders after a source with knowledge of the matter said the two
plan to jointly open stores combining the two retail formats.

The benchmark Nikkei gained 151.49 points to 10,389.69, while the
broader Topix rose 1.4 per cent to 960.93.
