Jassi,

I'd recommend that you work with the KfW 2.1.1 package. That includes
Kerberos 5 1.2.2. It also includes more Windows-specific release notes.
Actually, you should look at the KfW 2.1.2 beta 1 release notes since they
are much improved. KfW also builds krb5 with support for DNS lookups.

You can download pre-built KfW binaries as well as SDK and/or sources.

The KDC does not build on Windows. You have to run a KDC on Unix or run
against a Windows 2000 domain. Alternatively, you could port the KDC code
to Windows, but that would probably be a lot of work.

To locate the KDC, you will need to edit the krb5.ini file (which is just
like the Unix krb5.conf file). You can put this file in the same dir as
your binaries or your Windows dir. Alternatively, you can configure DNS
lookups for Kerberos configuration. Again, refer to the KfW release notes.

Hi Sreedhar
I also think i've got just the client as utilities like kadmin and
kdc cannot be found. So in order to run the client applications i have to
run the server, right? but how? i don't have the server utilities..
i could manage access to a windows 200 server and i ran the same utilities
on that machine. when i run kinit, it asks for the password for
defaultuser@realm but it says that the response from kdc did not match.
whereas if i run kinit on windows nt i get a msg saying that kdc could not
be located(thats because no kdc is running while on 2000 the active
directory serves as a kdc).. what should i do??

Hi,
What u installed is Kerberos client. I think along with the source they
might have given documentation also. If not, you can use the Unix
documentation for client. You have to edit the krb.con, krb.rlm and hosts
(in winnt\system32/drivers/etc Directory) files.

Mainly you have to specify
1. what is the realm name and which is the KDC for that realm
2. entry of KDC system name to IP address in Host file.
3. Principal entry for you in KDC.

Mail me if any problems while doing this.
