Double checking my working Kerberos system, I discovered I had the same problem.
I assume that you have the principal 'mercury' in the DB? But you don't have
the 'mercury/admin'?
Either you add a second principal (mercury/admin) OR you supply the correct principal
(mercury) on the command line...
kadmin -p mercury
