Edit util/et/Makefile and look fot the line @echo "building static $(LIB) library" That's where the static libs are built. Remove the @ on the line below, the one starting with @dirs and run 'make clean' then 'make' so that you can see the command run. Might be something wrong with the options passed to ar.
