I have not been able to test this since the 10.04 release as I have since pulled out all areca cards from all systems due to high-load issues. This issue will need validation from someone else that still uses the areca cards in a high-load environment.

Below is an example (two areca controllers, each has 4 luns/32 drives; the controller in this case controlling the second batch of 4 luns starts aborting commands and freezes). This causes file system corruption and data loss. A new driver was produced which can be obtained at: ftp://ftp.areca.com.tw/RaidCards/AP_Drivers/Linux/DRIVER/SourceCode/arcmsr.1.20.0X.15-90605.zip I have been running this new driver for the past 2-3 days with no recurrence, so it's an improvement. This should be back-ported to the kernel to avoid data corruption issues. [attached is system heuristic information as well as output of sysrq when aborts happen for reference).
