My fan works ok at boot, but after a day of usage (and maybe some suspends) the fan "goes dead" .
This is happening on 3.19.0-33-generic under Ubuntu 14.04. But on the same hardware, it does not happen on 3.5.0-54-generic under Ubuntu 12.04. Hardware: Asus X453M. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1125052 Title: Laptop cooling fan stops suddenly after a period of use. Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Bug description: I'm having this problem for a long time. The cooling solution (single fan for CPU and GPU) on my LG 590 (5700) laptop, suddenly stops to work and don't start again causing overheat and consequential system shutdown to prevent damage. How can I solve this? [I'm using Ubuntu 12.10 but the laptop was originally designed to run Windows.] - The fan works normal on Windows. It doesn't stop cooling even under heavy load such as games or full hd videos. As the processing temperature increases, the rotation rises too. In Ubuntu it happens in reverse; when under heavy load it just stops spinning; - I always use the latest stable driver version of graphics card and BIOS; - lmsensors are installed and working. No luck with fancontrol though. When I try to configure it, I get: "There are no pwm-capable sensor modules installed". P.S.: I'm new to this so I'm sorry if I did everything wrong here. Instruct me how to do a correct one. --- ApportVersion: 2.6.1-0ubuntu10 Architecture: i386 AudioDevicesInUse: USER PID ACCESS COMMAND /dev/snd/controlC1: dekosnamax 2314 F.... pulseaudio /dev/snd/controlC0: dekosnamax 2314 F.... pulseaudio /dev/snd/pcmC0D0p: dekosnamax 2314 F...m pulseaudio DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.10 HibernationDevice: RESUME=UUID=99cb8ea2-7b81-4b29-bc25-dc9d3cbd4175 InstallationDate: Installed on 2013-01-27 (20 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 12.10 "Quantal Quetzal" - Release i386 (20121017.2) MachineType: LG Electronics R590-P.BN58P1 MarkForUpload: True NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia Package: linux (not installed) ProcEnviron: LANGUAGE=pt_BR:pt:en TERM=xterm PATH=(custom, no user) LANG=pt_BR.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash ProcFB: 0 VESA VGA ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-3.7.0-7-generic root=UUID=6b5a5484-33e5-48f6-ad32-ae062eb69508 ro quiet splash nomodeset video=uvesafb:mode_option=1280x720-24,mtrr=3,scroll=ywrap ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.7.0-7.15-generic 3.7.0 PulseList: Error: command ['pacmd', 'list'] failed with exit code 1: Home directory /home/dekosnamax not ours.
