Freeze at login page

Bug description:
After updating from wily to xenial (beta 1 and following updates) the
screen freezes at login as soon as the lightdm splash comes up.
Switching to the console and logging in, I was able to capture the
dmesg output, which shows an OOPS in the drm module.
This happens with all 4.4.0 kernel I've tried so far. Booting with
4.2.0-34-generic (from wily) works fine.
