Maybe I wasn't clear enough in my description, but immediately after the
grub menu disappears, the screen flickers once and after that I cannot
get the screen to display anything, not even by switching to a virtual
console. The only thing I could do, is to remotely login with ssh and
copy the log files. Could you please tell me which ones you need? I need
the laptop so I already installed 13.04 back on it, but if I can help
debugging this, I will upgrade again to 13.10 and get the log files.

Title:
No video output at all when booting 13.10 on Asus Zenbook UX31A

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
After upgrading to 13.10 from 13.04 my computer booted into a black screen. I
could hear the login sound but couldn't see anything. Switching to some virtual
console isn't working either, nor was anything visible during the boot process.
I also tried to boot 13.10 from USB with a very similar result.
The IGP of the Zenbook UX31A is the Intel HD4000.
