I just did a little test. My screen is completely black. Like you turned it off with a power button on desktop computers. But, when I hit control + alt + T, the terminal window opens.
I still can't see a damn thing. When I enter this line in terminal "sudo setpci -s 00:02.0 F4.B=0", it looks like someone hits the power button. Full brightness screen appears. With the command "nomodeset" only resulutions 800x600 (4:3) & 1024x768 (4:3) are available. But, after entering this line in terminal, I have a visual again on my screen and also the resolutions for my screen: 800x600 (4:3) 1024x768(4:3) 1360x768 (16:9) 1366x768 (16:9) I could edit rc.local so it looks like this: #!/bin/sh -e # # rc.local # # This script is executed at the end of each multiuser runlevel. # Make sure that the script will "exit 0" on success or any other # value on error. # # In order to enable or disable this script just change the execution # bits. # # By default this script does nothing. sudo setpci -s 00:02.0 F4.B=0 exit 0 This is some what I found on the internet. But what happens when I put my laptop in a sleepingmode, or screen turns of after no activity? I heard some stories about people who wrote the screen was black again. And another question: is editing rc.local a definitive solution or is there a risk I end up with black screen again?
