closing laptop lid disables external keybord

Description: Ubuntu 11.10
Release: 11.10
Each time I connect my laptop to an external screen and keyboard via a
docking station and close the laptop lid I lose the external keybord response.
I can still use my external mouse and the external screen. I have to open the
laptop at least a bit so that I get back keyboard response.
