Following the instructions here: http://askubuntu.com/questions/833322 /pair-bose-quietcomfort-35-with-ubuntu-16-04-over-bluetooth I managed to make it pair and appear as an audio device.
While playback technically worked, it wasn't useable as it came across as though there wasn't enough bandwidth - the audio was choppy and got delayed.
