Interesting. There are no change between v4.14-rc7 and v4.14-rc8 in hid /i2c-hid, i2c and mfd drivers. Also, both -rc7 and -rc8 use the same config file.

Both in Ubuntu and Windows 10. The only way to restore functionality is to boot from usb key ubuntu 17.10 respined, or disassemble laptop and detach-reattach battery cable.
