Bug description:
Applying "mute" or raising/lowering the master volume does nothing:
the sound stays at the same level, "mute" does not mute.
This is on a desktop PC for office use (hp Compaq D530) with integrated audio
and mono output (no headphones required to listen sound).

Controlling sound level/mute is working on Master mono or on headphones as
expected. The common usage on an office PC is to use the internal audio
("Master mono") but this is by default hidden in the Gnome sound mixer, so the
user is lost.
