Title:
sddm-greeter segfault in nouveau_dri.so
Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
Confirmed
Bug description:
Hello,
This is a duplicate of bug #1783957 !
Yes, I confirm this is a duplicate that above bug, because nobody is
taking care of my problem of the above bug !!! Sadly ! And I will
(normally, with decency, not abusing of anything) report this on more
forums and more bug fixing platforms, until my problem gets resolved !
I want to convince everyone to adopt opensource software, one
motivation being that the opensource community (via forums, bug
reports, open community) resolves bugs more quickly than a commercial
software company. But, believe me, it's very hard to even convince
myself !
I cannot afford to loose weeks and months for a simple fix that can be
done via programming.
Sumamry:
-> Kubuntu 18.04.1 on MacBook Air
-> Kernel: 4.15.0-33
-> NVidia card with Nouveau drivers.
Error:
"Aug 24 08:50:10 itlap kernel: [ 30.086129] sddm-greeter[1076]: segfault at
1a ip 00007f8d3d9de6ce sp 00007ffe8f4e3f60 error 4 in
nouveau_dri.so[7f8d3d79e000+a7d000]"
Problem: It only starts X if I set kernel parameter "nomodeset" at boot. But
if I do that, my video driver doesn't gets loaded. And without the loaded video
driver, I cannot make projector presentations in my company.
If I leave it to start normally, all I get is a mouse cursor and a black
screen and the above error message.
I don't know if this is a kernel bug or a nouveau bug or even a sddm-
greeter bug, as I have other computers (IBM PCs, not Macs) that have
the same software and the driver gets loaded correctly at boot with no
intervention from me.
Please try to fix it in a reasonable amount of time and be more
receptive to users complaining about bugs.
Thank you !
