Title:
kernel should assert its version everywhere visible

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
It should be possible to be able to verify at a glance which version
  of the kernel is running.

Imagine an application being disastrously incompatible with a
  particular kernel.

I suggest an *option* to display the kernel version in (1) the status bar and
(2) the command prompt,
  but
definitely in both "About This Computer" and "System Setting>Details".
