Title:
  Upgrading to 18.04.1 from 17.10

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
I have a HP Mini 210-1170NR that I have been using since Ubuntu 14 I
believe. I have at it at 16 and currently (recently re-install 17.10
because of the possible "bug" in upgrading to 18.10.1 or even a fresh
install of 18.10.1 on this same system. I believe I do remembering
upgrading to 18.10 with success, but when it tries to go to 18.10.1
that is where the issue occurs.

Through at least 3 attempts to upgrade my laptop to 18.10.1 it will go
through the upgrade with out any errors or warnings until it does the last
reboot into the updated version. It will bring up the screen that just has
Ubuntu on it with the row of dots, it will go through at least one cycle of
changing the colors of the dots, it will display the mouse pointer, which will
not move when the mouse is moved, there will be some activity on the drive (the
drive light will flash for about 5 minutes, but not sure of the exact time)
then even it will not flash anymore. The screen will go blank after no
activity, but moving the mouse or clicking on keys will not cause the screen to
turn the display back on.
Since the information gathered here is more for a working system and not the
system that is having issues, and I seem to be able to re-create the issue at
will, I will try and proceed with the upgrade to 18.10.1 and see if it "works"
this time.

What I can use from you is maybe an iso or instructions to possibly
gather additional information that could be used to determine why it
is not completing the update process.

Any assistants you can provide will be gratefully appreciated. This is
an old windows system that I put Ubuntu on and it could be I go back
to 16.. and leave it there.
